Nicole Diem

I received my Bachelors in Art Education in 1997 and my Masters in Art Education in 2002 from Towson University. I have been teaching art for 20 years. I taught middle school for 5 years and 15 at  high school level.

I worked with master potter Ken Hankins at Shiloh Pottery where I learned the art of throwing pottery,  glazing techniques and firing processes. I also explored the ancient Japanese form of pottery which is known as Raku.

Raku generally refers to a type of a low-firing process that was inspired by traditional Japanese tea bowls. Raku pottery is fairly porous which results from the lo-firing temperatures and process, as well as, its lead glazes. â€‹I have put a more contemporary spin on this ancient ware. Be sure to check out my Decorative Raku link above to see my work and process.
